Last time I was in Karachi in 2022, I wrote about how it felt being a guest in my own home, not just inside the house but also in the city. Had a similar feeling when I was there in December of 2025. Only this time, I felt even more alienated, more disenfranchised. This trip also reinforced my understanding of nostalgia and how it is so very deceptive. You long for a place and people that are not there anymore. They physically exist, but they are not the same. The city has moved on. I saw many signs* that told me that it was time for me to move on as well.
I guess it's time to accept I will forever be that proverbial dog who is neither at home nor at the laundromat.
Anyhow, enough sulking and on to the fun bits!
*foreshadowing alert.
